Winter meetings for the Cape Cod Chapter, National Railway Historical Society, are held at the West Barnstable Fire Station, 2160 Meetinghouse Way (Route 149), in West Barnstable village.
Please note the monthly meetings from May through October, 2010 will be held at the West Barnstable Train Station, Route 149. Meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m. sharp!
Our station hosts many annual events. The West Barnstable Village Festival (www.westbarnstable.org) is a popular Cape Cod event held on the third Saturday in August. The station is open for business with the added attractions of the Cape Cod Live Steamers, (a 7 1/4 inch gauge track and train for smaller riders) and the Cape Cod Model R.R. Club’s HO scale layout.
Join in the fun in October when the Cranberry Express excursion train makes a trip across the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge to Buzzards Bay and celebrates the harvest of Cape Cod’s most famous fruit.
Scenic Passenger Train – The Cape Cod Central Railroad’s ‘Scenic Passenger Train’ provides an opportunity to see some of the Cape’s unspoiled and hidden beauty from a passenger train that runs through the sand dunes, cranberry bogs, salt marshes and the Cape Cod Canal! An on board commentator will highlight the Cape’s history and folklore as the train travels to the Canal and returns, a trip totaling two hours. A whistle stop is made in the historic village of Sandwich where shopping, dining and museum visits are possible. A train schedule is available at the West Barnstable and Hyannis Stations. Tickets for the Scenic Passenger Train from West Barnstable are sold at the station ONLY on Saturdays until train time (the train boarding is usually at 11:50 a.m. between May and October). Check schedules at our ticket office or go to Cape Cod Central Railroad’s website at (www.capetrain.com).
The first weekend in December, in conjunction with the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce (www.sandwichchamber.com) and the Cape Cod Central Railroad, the North Pole Express trains come to the Station! They leave from Sandwich station and head to the North Pole! The West Barnstable Train Station is transformed into the North Pole Station. Santa and Mrs. Claus greet the children and families, and there is hot cocoa and goodies for everyone! Get your tickets through the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce early!
